After a few reenactments using the standard press-and-stick in your ear, earplug, you wish there was something better. There are "shooter's earplugs" which allow the normal sound of talking and natural sounds, but block the loud impact sounds of gun fire. Which for me would be great, because once my earplugs are in, I go into the zone. At the last battle at Holcomb Valley, my earplugs completely block out the wind sounds. I use the Sonic II earplugs. They are amazing. I can stand under the muzzle blast of the .50 cal with no problem and still hear people talk. Hearing a normal conversation after years of not using earplugs is another matter.

For anyone looking for good ear plugs I highly recommend these.
Its hard to find the Sonic II earplugs anymore as they upgrade the technology all the time. This is the latest version.

Do a search on eBay for those, they run about $11. Trust me, save your hearing now. To some of you $11 may sound like a lot for earplugs but when you get older and have to pay out over $3,000 for hearing aids like I do now, $11 is chump change.
You can wear these ear plugs all day, hear people talk and they will filter out any loud noises. As I mentioned, I can stand under the muzzle blast of my gas fire .50 cal and it doesn't bother me at all, yet still hear people talk.
