I am planning on attending this one for the entire weekend and might even leave on Friday so I can be set up by the time the event starts on Saturday. I will be taking with me two of my large wall tents (sleep 6-8), one for displays and one for sleeping quarters. I was told we will be camping in the tank park that is fenced off. Lunch vouchers to be used at the vendors are planned for reenactors.
One of the board members at the museum is actually in our unit. We are planning an impromptdu trail ride to one of the nearby training camp locations.
I am planning on bringing my jeep and have two other possible members attending with me. This one should be a good one.

Sunday I drove my jeep around with Daniel manning the .50 cal and gave visitors rides. One of the people I gave a ride to was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. This veteran was at Schofield Barracks when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor. He was also sent to Europe and was wounded at Hurtgen Forest. Another veteran I gave a ride to was a 92nd Division veteran, a Buffalo soldier. He was a sargeant in this division and my dad's unit was attached to this division for a short time in Italy. We got to explore inside one of the tanks in the tank park. This one happened to be the one we were camping next to. Attachments:

At our first stop I went exploring and found an old truck air cleaner from WWII. At other stops we made more explorations and found this rock filled pit. This was (according to our guide) a urinal for troops. We found lots of rusty razor blades, nails and cans. I found the bottom of a Carlisle bandage tin. Attachments:

There were a lot of M-60 tanks in the tank park. I took this picture from the top of another tank on display and in it you can see in the background the WWII displays, a Composite hull Sherman tank that had been used as a target on a range and even harder to see in this photo is a Pershing tank with a couple hits on its mantlet. The white frame you can see is one of three that were on display. These were the Stuart tank mock ups that were built for use at the Desert Training grounds to simulate American tanks. These were fitted over jeeps and then covered with canvas. These are the real deal, not mock ups built by the museum. Attachments:

I had a great time. Thanks for the ride and good times. Also learned I haven't completely forgotten how to handle a jeep. Remember we still owe Chad a turn too
