West Coast Regional April 28-29, 2012

The CHG's event at Camp Roberts scheduled for the end of April is currently marked 'To Be Determined,' and has been for some time. I know many of you have been patiently waiting for the dates to be locked so that you can make plans to attend this great event. Unfortunately, this event has been put on hold as the post is currently reviewing all non-D.O.D. activity on the base. I do not know when this hold will be released or if the base will decide to allow our club to re-use the post at all. I do not know what the odds are of us keeping the dates of April 28-29 at this time but I will continue to hold these dates until I get an answer from Camp Roberts.

The club has enjoyed the use of Camp Roberts for about two decades and does hope to continue to use the base for future events. However, I and the Executive Board are aware that this is a working military installation and that the needs and priorities of the military come first. While our events have grown over the past several years, we always wish to remain a small footprint on the site as to not burden the base staff during our weekends there. I do hope that I can give you all an answer soon. Please continue to refer to the C.H.G.'s website to check for the latest updates regarding this and other club events.

Communique:
"To all interested parties,

The club has decided to cancel our request to use Camp Roberts for our April event and relocate to another location. I know this will come as a disappointment to most of you, but the club decided to cancel it as opposed to keep people in waiting.

The new location is still to be determined as we have to see what sites are available on short notice. I can tell you that this alternate site will be located in Southern California. I know that will make it improbable for reenactors outside of the Southern California proximity. The new site will also be camping only and with limited armor use.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter. We are hoping that the situation will be resolved for us to make a return to Camp Roberts in the Fall.

Just an FYI, since we are not able to have a Camp Roberts battle, I was able to secure Holcomb Valley as a site to be used on April 28th and 29th. John Marketello stated his unit will conduct a Belgium scenario, set in September 1944. IN this area and at this time, there was a high activity of local partisans and Maquis. Thus, the hosts are allowing accurate partisan impressions for this event.

This will be a camping event only. Road access should be good (as reported by the ranger on site after last weekend's rains).
