Passed away this afternoon. He was in the hospital for the last three months or so following open heart surgery for congestive heart failure due to a build up of problems from his childhood treatments for cancer. He was recuperating but was having problems and this afternoon it just was to much for him.
I have no word yet on services.
I will miss him. He was a very dear friend. He had a love and understanding of life you rarely find in people. Took nothing for granted, enjoyed every minute of it. I enjoyed his company thru GI Joe collecting, watching his kids grow and finally supporting him in reenacting. I know he truly enjoyed meeting everyone and getting to experience wargaming with all of us. These last four to five years were truly some of his best. Thank you all for that.

Normally its a thing in my family to light a candle... hard to do on a military base but I've spent some time reflecting about times we've shared with my dad and have lit a mental candle.
Its always horrible to lose a friend. I can only echo your sentiments Tim. He was a really outgoing and open minded guy who was a trooper and would come to events as much as he could despite his physical heart. But no one can doubt Jeff's spiritual heart to be with friends and have a good time.
Jeff, I can only send prayers up and promise to never forget another friend lost. You were certainly a man I had a great respect for and I can't lose sight of that or what you've done for your friends.
Godspeed friend.

Was sadden to hear the news as well. Jeff was quite a guy, with one lung and one kidney the guy never complained and fought on a events, just as he had been doing since he was a kid. It was his character which allowed him to beat the odds.
He was always a friendly guy, with excitement and cheer on is face and in his voice. He will bee sorely missed. My prayers go out to his brother and soon, and his girlfriend of many years.
Peace to you brother

My brother and I were deeply saddened to receive this news...
Jeff was one of my favorite people within this great unit. He was truly a generous, kind and loving guy with a bright personality that you couldn't help but feel drawn to and love.
Despite all that he went through in his life, he chose to be a good person and not bitter about the cards dealt him. I looked up to him as a person. I cherish the memories of talking with him about his GI Joes, and many many other subects of World War Two. He was just a wealth of information not only on World War Two but also on life.
You can rest assured, he will never ever be forgotten by me, my brother and I am sure, no one else who ever had met him.
There is not enough I can say about Jeff Finney. My words are not enough to do this truly amazing and golden man justice.
I will never forget the conversation he and my brother and I had the pleasure of having together. He gave my brother and I a box of original DOT razor blades. They will hold an even more important and special place in my heart now.
May God bless him and his family. Jeff, you'll never be forgotten.

Viewing is this Thursday, Funeral on Friday. Family is keeping it private with only family and a few close friends. Garreth should be arriving today and staying a week to help with arrangements.
There is a lot I can say about Jeff. But all I will say is he was always there for me and I will miss him sorely. He was the brother I wish I had.
