The guy on the right reminds me of the IJA guys up at the east coast. Too cheap to buy uniforms so they modify dickies work uniforms and buy some european surplus for webgear.

Are our historical reenactments a contest or competition? It presents an interesting question. If it is a competition is there a winner, and what do the win? Also why are reenactments a competition other than the obvious nature that we are simulated and fake war.

Well the big difference I believe is that these are geared towards Living History though the points they make go all around the events. But its the tacticals that have really pressed people into "wanting to win."
Why? Well you just have those types out there. And it leads to all the items of discussion that we've had here and there and even right now.
When it comes to public education at a living history there is *no* competition. You are there for a purpose with the mission statement of your club/organization/unit at heart and I'm pretty sure most of these chartered non-profit groups have submitted that raising veteran awareness and public education are their cornerstones. So when it comes to that, those items *should* be stringent. "If ya's gonna teach it, teach it correctly!"
Doesn't mean throw out all inhibition for private events/tacticals either.
