I really enjoyed this event~There was lots of resets (one was a little long), plenty of action and good unit cohesion. I fired 70 rounds with my springfield I brought! (I need ammo for next battle!) The bazookas worked great and Joe nailed a halftrack! One of my favorite battles! There was lots of tarantula spiders! I took a picture of one Tom and I saw. It was cold at night but perfect weather to be battling in during the day!

Joe also took out the Hetzer, he was balls on with that bazooka.
First contact was a classic ambush with Jean Francis with Randy manning his .30 on the passenger side and Angus manning the .50 cal. We positioned ourselves in a gully in the road and Sgt. Cabaras signaled us up and out when the armored car we were stalking came in range. What he didn't tell us was the entire german column was right behind him! We got the Armored car and the half track following but we had our butts handed to us on a platter.
We came bursting out that gully with both guns blazing. It was a true Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid moment!

Also, the Tarantula killing itself was awesome.

Yeah that was pretty crazy what that Tarantula did, but yeah I got the Hetzer and the German anti-tank gun with the bazooka.
I wish I had some pictures of my own but I forgot to grab my camera out of my bag.

It turned out to be an excellent event...as all bivouac events are. I think the coordination between Allied units was lacking a little, but I'm glad we were on line (the FRONT LINE) with the 34th/442. I think they pair us together all the time because they know we work well together. The long lull in Saturday was from the Stuart getting stuck on the hillside between two trees and throwing a track. I think we needed it though as we were getting run around pretty good by the armor. You guys did great with the bazooka...now we just need to get our anti-armor and MG's out to some of these events! Thanks for sharing the fire, feeding some of our troopers and for the general cameraderie between your guys and ours. Always a pleasure to be at an event with you.

BTW, the fighting on Sunday was just as intense as on Saturday. Normally it's a little more laid back, but we got in some serious firefights. We rolled out of camp at 0900 and as soon as we got into our positions we got hit hard by the 12th...infantry, hetzer, halftracks and the armored car. Fell back after holding the line for 10 minutes and subsequently got rolled all the way back to camp. A solid 3 hours straight before we finally called it a day. Couldn't have asked for a better ending to the weekend...well, it would have been better if we could have held our ground, but you can't do much without armor support against armor...the Stuart was 1 1/2 hours late and we never even saw the halftrack.

Always a pleasure Tom. Sorry we couldn't stick around to help knock off that armor on Sunday but I had to get one of our guys back to the airport that day. Good times....
Next time we kill them good!
