This event was marked with some special times and moments. The unit went on a long patrol through the brush and into the hillside. Here is one magic moment trapped in time.

The Cassino_Gustav Line reenactment proved to be just as stalemate for the Allies to break as it was back then in 1944. With the Germans fortified on top of the hill, deep natural underbrush cover, mine fields and being outnumbered 2-1, was suicidal of any type of direct assault. You can not get any closer without being picked off or pinned down by enemy fire.
The only alternative was to attack from both flanks at the same time and use diversions. But coordinating those attacks was by far, more difficult to achieve as communication was minimal between 2 squads that was spread across in a big open field. The Germans countered every possible movement with great anticipation. With look outs at every point, using binoculars and 2 way radios they were able to quickly counter our attacks with overwhelming reinforcements.
By mid-break it was decided that a recon patrol scout team inserted behind enemy line was the only other option we had to crack the German defense line. To do this we had to regroup and extend our patrol on the outer edges of the battle field to go undetected. Unfortunately because of the extra time we had to expend to get there, it was too late to mount an ambush attack as time expired for afternoon "Reset" of all forces. By this time most of the remaining Allied forces left to carry out the diversions had lost interest in a futile battle and ended up as MIAs.
The remainder of the afternoon was concluded with Germans going counter-offensive as the last remaining allied troops tried to defend a last ditch effort until all ammunitions and water supply was exhausted.

If we just had the mortar and few more bodies may have been different for this event. But anyway, nice pic from Dave P and Victor hit on the nose that being pinned down most of the day was tough on the morale. Thanks for another fun event Love Co. Can anyone that did not go ID the patrol right to left?

I'll see if I can work up an after action report article for this.
It was a great time with everyone in our unit as always!
While the scenario specifically was the Gustav-Line, if we look at our units and where they were at this time (Anzio beachhead) it was really the same thing. The 34th and 100th battalion battering against a stubborn German line and not making much progress.

That is such an awesome photo, we should find a way to incorporate this in our link site for all to see. Like our own version of Band of Brothers or Brothers in Arms picturesque.

Victor, we post all our pictures on the unit's Gallery. What is interesting is our forums gets more traffic than our website when it comes to reenactors.

Can't wait to see the pictures on our unit's gallery!
I'll start working on an article for the battle. It will read more of like a newspaper article rather than an official AAR. In the past, I've written a few for different battles we have been to. If you have any stories or experiences you think should be mentioned in them, please feel free to PM with them and I will be sure to work them in!

Fine how about a brochure then for the Costa Mesa Gun show for recruitment purposes? Hehe.. We already have a brochure, and that too is posted and available on our unit website. We've been using a brochure for a while now. We have enough brochures and business cards to cover the Costa Mesa Gun Show.

Article should be up by Friday. I will be contacting some people to get their debriefs of the battle to get a better overall picture and flow of the battle.
Will the pictures from this battle be posted to our Unit's web album?
