The older boys, Rupert & Werner, served in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division and were given leave in July '45 to visit the family home. They were supposedly greeted with a sign that said "this property under protection of the American Army for the exclusive use by Sgt Werner and Cpl Rupert Von Trapp". Probably fiction, but the leave has been documented.
