I've found some super cool stuff.
One thing I found was two paper records. One is marked 1942, 78rpm and the other is just dated 1944. These were commonly recorded with messages from home from loved ones to send to servicemen overseas. I have no idea what's on them and one is very heavily damaged. The other is marginal with some damage so I don't know if they can be salvaged or not but we want to see if we can get them checked and if anything is salvageable transfered to a CD. Anyone know who I can go to for that kind of work?
Another cool thing I found was my grandmother high school yearbook. 1924 from Waterloo High School in Iowa. She was a freshman then.
My mother was a photo manic and took pictures of everything! The amount of photo albums and pictures was staggering when I went thru their albums this weekend. My sister wants to make scrapbooks for our siblings but the amount of material is just unbelieveable. Literally THOUSANDS of photos and I gave at least two or three albums to my Minnesota relatives and there are still about a dozen or more albums. I found two photo albums from my dad. One I knew about but there was one much older that I could not believe. Obviously prewar, it's got pictures of many people (I assume mostly relatives) that I have no clue about. Many in traditional Japanese dress.
It's going to take a long time of research to get all this sorted out.

Cool find. It's nice to find things to memorialize family.

We've taken some of our Dad(s) pictures to Kinko's and scan them into CD's. With photoshop elements you can do a lot, you would be surprised. Here is an example of me, taking about 15 minutes and what little knowledge and skills I have. Also changing the tint of a photo helps add the look of more detail. After Before You can also convert some pictures into ink and line drawings Or if you want to get creative, you can add detail, that isn't there
