This past Christmas, my older brother (who I might add is a potential recruit!) gave me a book called: Long Ago and Far Away: Hollywood and the Second World War. It is by Robert Fyne. This is what the back cover says -
"After scrutinizing hundres of screenplays, Robert Fyne has written an in-depth study of World War Two films, analyzing the different storylines, points of view, and contemporary events. In 'Long Ago and Far Away: Hollywood and the Second World War,' Fyne examines World War Two films from 1941 to the present, explaining how their content and mood paralleled national mores and politics. Some titles are laudatory, some chauvinistic, and others frivolous. Biographical screenplays both glorify and damn various leaders. Some films bombard viewers with horrific experiences, while goofy science-fiction titles feature wraiths and flying saucers. There are love stories, as well as films revealing Japanese prisoner-of-war deprivations and Nazi concentration camps."
At a glance and slight flip through this book, it looks quite good. It has famous as well as probably not even known about movies. I would tart to read it, but I am trying to get through some of the other 7 books I got for christmas lol
