VEHICLE CREW IMPRESSION
There are certain items that are ok for a vehicle crew man but not necessarily for infantry.
1. Musette bag M1936 pack. Normally this was only used by officers or services such as Airborne, but for vehicle crew men they were commonly used to store their gear by hanging off the side of a vehicle. 2. Goggles. There are only two types of authorized goggles for vehicle crews. M1943 goggles and Polaroid All Purpose Type 1021 (page 67, GI Collectors Guide). While the M1944 goggles would be correct, they came to late in the war to have been widely used and would only be correct for very, very late war battles. 3. Winter Combat Jacket (commonly referred to as the “Tankers Jacket, GI Collectors Guide page 129). 4. Mackinaw Coats. There were several versions of this coat. Early ones are preferable, only issued to vehicle drivers and officers. These were also commonly seen with NCO’s and sometimes enlisted troops when they scrounge them. 5. Advisable for vehicle drivers; a. gloves, leather, canvas or knitted b. wool or knitted scarves
